Cool Your Patio With An Awning Or Shade Sail
Patios are usually designed to be placed in full sun. Not necessarily, in warmer areas, the heat of the midday sun, but enough sun to give you that good sense of relaxation and well being that we get when exposed to lots of vitamin D.
As a place for people to get together, kids to play, barbeque, and a lot of other activities, your patio can become one of the most used areas of your home.
However, it is possible for too much sun to make being on the patio uncomfortable. The addition of an awning in your patio design will allow you to enjoy the sun’s warmth without becoming burned by the sun and also provide protection against passing showers. Patio awnings and canopies are very useful additions for outdoor comfort.
An awning can be either retracting or a fixed permanent type. A permanently fixed awning, as its named, stays in the same place and never moves. It’s usually a type of shade cloth that is attached to a permanent steel or aluminium frame. Retractable awnings can be stored quickly, and are available in either electric or crank operated models. In climates, yards, or landscaping plans where permanent awnings must be dismantled at the approach of winter and erected again in spring, retractable awnings, which can be left in their cassette all year round, are especially useful.
You may also use a shade sail as a possible alternative to a complete awning. Shade sails can be custom made to any size you require, or you can combine a number of smaller ones to cover a larger area. A simple tension system anchored to walls or poles is usually used to attach and install shade sails. Where awnings are most often permanent, sails are portable and can taken to a new home and reinstalled if you happen to move.
No too long ago, all shade covers and cloths were created out of canvas material. However, these days we have more to choose from. There are many different acrylic fabrics that are sewn together to create shade cloths. Besides being another way to decorate the garden, these shade cloths are very tough, uv resistant, and long lasting which makes the chances of sun, wind, or storm damage a whole lot less. The space between weaves creates different levels of filtering, giving you more choice about the amount of protection you want. It also affects cost.
Sun protection from patio awnings and shade sails will help keep you safe from overexposure to the sun. They can also reduce glare, and can be found in colors to suit any existing color scheme.
